Renkin San-Kyuu Magical Pokaan
I use the main screen of uTorrent as a sort of Video Manager, with tags indicating things I've watched, things I'm planning to watch, things I have collected but aren't on deck, etc. And I move things around that way.
I recently noticed that I had managed to move something into my to watch label that I didn't recognize. I started to check it out, and then I realized to my chagrin that I had downloaded a batch with GERMAN subtitles. And then I looked further and realized I had downloaded this very old show in 2011. But you know, some people are very dedicated, and a torrent that was posted in 2014 is still running. And the subs are in English, the resolution is higher, and I still don't remember why I downloaded a show originally from 2005 six years ago.
Plus, it's a cute show. Four girls have come to Earth each representing different occult archetypes, a witch, a vampiress, a cyborg (Frankenstein) and this girl, Liru, a werewolf. They build a home in a tree in a park, and try to live in this world with absolutely no clue. In the half episode the screencap is from, the witch notices the postal delivery guy dropping off mail at every house across the street, and she wants some, but has no idea what it actually is. She and the Cyborg build mailboxes, but when that cargo cult move doesn't get them mail, they all escalate.

Okay, I'm interested, but I don't see an active torrent anywhere. Link in email?

Don't think I have your address. Try this (magnet link)? I just restarted my seeding for it (Changed 2:1 to 5:1)

Thanks. First time trying to use a magnet link, and so far, it just sits there doing nothing. I presume I have to leave qbittorent running long enough for it to find a node that recognizes the hash.

Found a torrent with seeds (had to update qbittorrent to get the search engine to work; haven't downloaded anything in quite a while...). The magnet link never did anything, though; maybe my client is misconfigured in some fashion.

5 seconds into the OP and I recognized the character designer from Hand Maid May, Cosplay Complex, and G-On Riders. This is a good thing!

Guess I can shut it down now. I'm not an expert on the thing, but I think magnet links depend on DHT running. I also don't know if the format that uTorrent gives when you select "copy Magnet URI" is the same as a magnet link as you see on the torrent sites. This torrent also inclues three extras, and the circle was [BAF].

The one I found was a DVD-rip by [Tsundere], and also includes the three extras. The moment I started watching, I remembered having seen some comments from SDB, but he never gave it a full article or review.
I had DHT turned on, and it was at one point connected to 300+ peers, but it never found one who recognized the hash. Maybe they'll have this stuff working in a year or two when I try to download something again... :-)

Hmmm, when I click the magnet link, it switches to uTorrent and asks me if I want to add the Trackers because I already have the torrent. Yeah, I don't know what to say there. But as long as you have it, that's good.
So, how do you like it?

Oh, I might have included the magnet link for the really old german sub! I hadn't deleted that yet, but I imagine the torrent was lonh gone.

But will it play my anime files?
Yay, Amazon has finally made a Fire Tablet that has a full 1080P screen. But what I want to know is, will it play .mkv files and handle fansubs?
I did see .mkv in the specification. But knowing how fansubbers do all kinds of tricks with color and animation in the subtitles, I wonder how well that is supported.

Reno Air Races....
Just got back to my hotel after the last race. It's way too big of an event to cover in a blog like this (Which is meant to be my anime blog anyway) but my god, the final Unlimited Class Race... Voodoo and Strega ware SO fast they double lapped the last plane, and thus the race really resembled an obstacle course.
Strega won, but it was really close the whole time. If it hadn't been for the other traffic, I can't say for sure how it would have turned out.

In the past I was rather amused by Fireball Charming, so I will watch Fireball Humorous. Not sure about anything else. Hell, I don't think I picked up anything this summer, but I should have a chance to hit batches soon, if anyone has any recommendation.

Japanese Sparklers
When an episode of an anime show has fireworks celebrations, often children are shown dangling these little sparklers. They're very different from the western kind we have, and both simple and difficult to make. This guy has figured out how to make your own Senko Hanabe sparklers. Enjoy, but don't burn your house down....
Success!
For the first time in my personal history, I've managed to resurrect a non-booting Windows machine without reinstalling!
The how is that I had a handy scratch drive, burned a recent image backup onto it, and....
No, it wasn't that easy, the image, and older images for some reason wouldn't boot either. I mucked about with them for a while but eventually decided that I may as well work on a direct clone of the current drive. This way I could do anything and if I really screwed things up, my original would still be okay.
The problem was somewhere in the Windows/Win32/Drivers folder. Of course, booting in safe mode would fail, and it wouldn't help because it only shows you which file was last successfully loaded, and it doesn't tell you the order they're loading. And that info isn't easily found on DuckDuckGo. (And the Windows technical forum is full of links that don't redirect properly, possibly they only work in explorer, I didn't try).
For a while I was looping through Windows repair, finding the file it choked on, going into the command line, deleting the file in the x: recovery environment that said there was a repair pending, so that I could run SFC /scannow /offbootdir=c:\ offwindir=c:\windows, which worked until I hit compbatt.sys, that wouldn't come back uncorrupted. Plus, since I was formatted under GPT because I have a 3 TB drive, I had to make sure the install disk I was using launched under UEFI or it would complain it wouldn't work with this version of windows (Which I had installed from that very disk!).
Tired of looping like this, I got the idea to delete everything out of the drivers directory. That was less than successful because SFC seemed to skip any file that wasn't already there by this point. But then I had an idea.
I opened up the backup image, and merely copied the drivers directory in anew. And amazingly, my computer booted and said "Hey, you've been away a few days, there are more updates!"
Why this worked I'm not entirely sure. Clearly the driver's folder isn't quite so heavily cross linked throughout Windows like everything else that changing a file screws everything up. And I must have corrected some other error along the way that I'm unaware of as well. No matter, I have actually, successfully FIXED a computer!
So, the scratch drive is now the C: drive, and when everything checks out and new images are backed up, the old C: will periodically be a clone of the scratch drive new C: drive.
BTW, Macrium Reflect gets my hearty recommendation for making this all possible. Bravo!
Can't win, can I?
After recovering from the blown power supply, I came home again to a dead computer. Won't reboot. I was better prepared, with weekly image backups, and a scratch drive laying around. And so I've been spending the week fruitlessly trying to resurrect the thing rather than giving up and rebuilding and reinstalling EVERYTHING all over again. (wouldn't you?)
I think I've reconstructed the events leading to the death as a bad driver that got downloaded when I recharged this ancient photoframe thing I had laying around. But how to identify it and remove it when the machine won't boot? Even in safe mode? It's a classic corrupt classpnp.sys problem, that nobody seems to have a good fix for (Except for folks who have crapware they want you to download and install, which of course requires you to HAVE A BOOTABLE MACHINE TO USE.). Windows install disks didn't want to repair because they're over 2 TB, it also didn't want to install at first (getting win 7 to install on a UEFI drive takes some legerdemain before it works properly.) I was able to successfully install the week old image to the scratch disk, which still wouldn't boot (?!). So I also successfully cloned the current drive to the scratch disk to make all my attempts to fix on that first.
I've learned some cool things, like how to get the repair system to forget it's got a repair pending so you can use tools like SFC /scannow to try to repair things (didn't find anything to fix.). But I'm running out of ideas.
If you go from the Know your Meme origins, a simple bit of throwaway rhyming in a selfie video turned into a major YouTube song meme. Please go, and be sure to look at the ASDF Movie 10 video. Two brief bits of what is to come appear in that compilation of jokes that laid the foundation for dozens of music videos that came later. It's the essential key to understanding the meme.
But what it leads me to is this version. It actually cleverly goes beyond the source material, turning ordinary sheep into anthropomorphic sexpots, and then ups the ante even higher by throwing in all kinds of cultural and Anime references into the mix (And I sadly confess not getting all of them.)

Some Computer Experts are morons.
All I wanted was a USB header Y-cable. Nobody makes one. Some Chinese company sells a dodgy little micro hub, which appears to take the two USB ports on your header and give you... two USB ports.
For god's sake, can't anyone read the pinout diagrams in their MoBo manuals? That header is two ports. The problem is every internal component that uses USB like my power supply or CPU cooler includes a keyed 9 pin connector with only four wires connected to the pins so that the turnips don't plug it in backwards and fry the device.
But Google Motherboard USB Port Splitter and you will find lots of sage advice from people who have no idea what they're talking about, all of them insisting you need all 9 pins to run USB. and recommending buying USB cards to get additional headers. Head, meet desk.
All you need is a short cable that on one side, takes the pins from port 1 and connects them to a header in the port 1 position, and on the other side takes the pins from port 2 and connects them to a header also in the port 1 position.
Nobody makes this as far as I can tell.
I may be forced to pry out the pins from one of my cables and insert them into the plug in the port 2 side of the other cable.

One search at Bing for "newegg motherboard dual usb header" and it was the 4th result on the 1st page. Plugging pins into a 2-row header sounds good too.

Yeah, that's a front panel adapter. Not the right solution.
Now, I've MADE header connectors before (lots of servo extensions for robots), but I couldn't keep the tools, alas. A good crimper is about $20, and an assortment of shells and pins can be found on Amazon (search Dupont connector) for various prices. I could thus make a y-cable adapter for about $30. (or less if I ordered just enough bits from Jameco). There seems to be enough demand, so I have no idea why the product doesn't exist.
But the cheap way is to move the pins to the other connector.

For example here is the wrong Chinese thing. It's actually a USB hub, takes the two ports on the MB header, (or just one of them) and turns them into 4. Also about half this price on Amazon.

"Front panel", seriously? It goes into both front and back, and the back includes ISA/PCI slot cover as well as rear panel cutouts, if your box has those. Look at the rear picture.

The NewEgg thing was a Front Panel connector, like the one built into my computer case. It connects to the header and gives you two USB type A connectors, which isn't suitable for my purpose. The Rear Panel connector you linked from Amazon likewise terminates in two USB type A connectors. I need those wires to terminate in headers instead.

I see now that your post included all the necessary information for someone with a modicum of reading comprehension. But my mind refused to believe that a power supply may have a USB interface. I'm afraid it's time for you to break out a soldering iron. Or, you could just use the blessed thing without USB. Hopefully that is still an option even these days.

It works without the USB, but I'm curious about the data. And I wonder if I was drawing too much power out of my old PSU. (I don't think it's worth the effort to try to get $40-$50 back in deprecated warranty value from it, so I may dissect it. The small piece of plastic that fell out of it may mean that I blew a FET.) I might be able to temporarily hook it up, just to get a read on it with the monitoring software, but the cooler takes priority. They both work without being hooked up.
BTW, the terminals are solderless. I'm debating buying a crimping tool (About $23, but useful forever) and a box of blocks and terminals to make the proper cable just so I can take a picture of it and say "You See Industry, THIS is what we need!" Of I could just save me money, move the terminals into another block and make a frankencable.
