Winter 2026

Looking at my selections on Anime Chart, I see five returning series and five new things.

Is there any chance I'm gonna keep up with that much?

Hell no!

Returning series:
Sousou no Frieren
Mato Seihei no Slave
Vigilante -Boku no Hero Academia ILLEGALS
Hime-sama "Goumon" no Jikan desu
GANGLION

New series:
Mayonaka Heart Tune
Fate/strange Fake
Toumei Otoko to Ningen Onna: Sonouchi Fuufu ni Naru Futari
Jingai Kyoushitsu no Ningengirai Kyoushi
Goumon Baito-kun no Nichijou

I'm almost unsure which category to put the new Fate in, since the first episode came out over two years ago, but then, I never got around to watching it, so I'll call it new.

I could explain my choices if anyone cares, and if anyone wants to see the promotional videos, translated titles, airdates and all kinds of other useful information, the link to Livechart.me is on the side. It really is an essential resource for keeping track of all the anime I'm saving for retirement, or losing in a hard drive crash before that happens....

Scoob

That was the working title for my latest short story. I just finished it today, now I need to let it marinate for a little while before I do final edits and submit it.

Raconteur Press is doing another Mad Science anthology, and I'm hoping to get in again. (They average 100 submissions per book, when they only take ten!) I'd had this idea cooking in the back of my mind for a long time as a background story in Dr. Mauser. Literally background - it was going to be running on a TV tuned to the History Channel or something. It was the real story behind the Scooby Doo gang, as it would be in the Dr. Mauser universe. So you'd have interviews of the surviving cast, telling what really happened to them, which was entirely at odds with the cartoon made about them. Instead of real estate scammers, they ran afoul of a Dr. Moreau-like Mad I'd dubbed "el Monstroso". It did not go well for them.

But hey, it led to The Code to be modified to extend protections to Boy Detectives, Girl Sleuths, Meddling Kids and high school Clue Clubs.

I never did anything with that for years, but it was there. When the call for a second volume came out, I even asked the editor whether he'd prefer one idea I had, about an agent trying to track down stolen forbidden tech, or this, and he said this. So hopefully that gives me a leg up.

Of course, I had to file all the serial numbers off. The only thing left is each character's first initial. The dog is now a German Shepard, and the Mad was his creator. "El Monstroso" is known for building chimeras, and the dog was the first time he'd dabbled in human bits.

Oh, there were all kinds of things I wanted to fit in there as fun references, but didn't make it in. (Moreau being real, and H.G. Wells being paid by Justice to fictionalize the tale in order to give it deniability.) (A government scientist in the Florida Keys named Kenton Best.), but once I get a flow going, it's hard to crowbar things in, and it was already 7000 words (The allowed range being 5-8K).

Anyway, if rabid Scooby Doo fans find it, I'm going to get lynched.

Made it

So, I turned the Big Six Oh. Maybe that explains why I can't think of anything really significant happening this year. Other than the Mad Science anthology coming out.

For a season where I thought I wasn't going to watch much of anything... how did I end up with 100 unwatched episodes in this season's folder (Well, part of it is I carry forward continuing seasons, and that's also where I add seasons of older shows that get recommended, but still, it's a lot.)

Oh, and of course totaling the car, and that whole episode is STILL dragging on because the lady hired a lawyer to sue my insurance company expecting a big payday. Boy is she in for a surprise when the lawyer sucks up half of the settlement and the medical bills he told her to rack up come out of her half.

Most of what I can think of is things I wanted to do that are unfinished. I need to get on that. Oh, and my livejournal Resolutions article, I need to do that. Also trying to do a story for the next Mad Science anthology, and my expectation that I could get a lot done during this break is turning out to be a joke.
